Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to clean the surface before marking?
It depends on the marker. Our lines vary, some are built to write on oily, wet, dirty, rusty, rough, or uneven surfaces, while others need a clean surface for the best bond and longest-lasting mark. The Stainless Steel Rolling Ball Tip line (MM-66, MM-94, MM-99) goes furthest, writing through wet, oily, rusty, or contaminated conditions, even underwater. Check the product page for the marker you're considering, or contact us and we'll help you find the right one for your surface condition.
What's the difference between a wet surface marker and an underwater marker?
Wet surface markers bond to surfaces that are above water, damp, condensing, or rain-soaked. Underwater markers are formulated to work fully submerged, making them the right choice for pipeline inspection, marine applications, and below-grade work. If you're marking in standing water or beneath the surface, visit our Mighty Marker Stainless Steel Rolling Ball Tip collection.
My surface is both oily and rusty. Which marker do I need?
You need a marker built for harsh conditions, not ideal ones. Mighty Marker's oil and dirt resistant formulas are tested for contaminated surfaces, including combined conditions like rust and grease. If you're unsure, contact our team and we'll spec the right marker for your application.
Mighty Marker® by Arro-Mark®

Industrial Markers Built for Tough Surface Conditions

Mighty Marker® formulas are engineered for the surface conditions that cause standard markers to fail: wet, rusty, oily, dirty, underwater, and rough surfaces alike. Each condition collection is engineered to solve one specific failure point, water washing ink away, rust and oil breaking adhesion, dirt blocking contact, submersion dissolving pigment, or rough, porous texture wearing a tip thin.

Mighty Marker® is manufactured by Arro-Mark®, a family owned U.S. company with 70+ years of industrial marking craftsmanship. Have a condition not listed here? Talk to an expert about a custom formula built to your exact specification.
