Why Rust and Corrosion Cause Standard Markers to Fail
Rusty, oxidized metal is a chemically active, flaking surface, not a stable one. Standard ink sits on top of loose rust particles instead of bonding to the metal underneath, so the mark flakes off with the corrosion instead of staying put. Mighty Marker® rusty surface formulas are engineered to bond through that oxidized layer, so the mark holds even as the surface continues to corrode.
Where Rusty Surface Marking Matters Most
Rusty surface marking comes up anywhere metal sits exposed to weather and time before it gets marked: pipeline and oilfield equipment, scrap and salvage yards, weathered structural steel and rebar on construction sites, aging marine and shipbuilding hulls, and outdoor agricultural or heavy equipment. If the metal has any visible corrosion, it's a rusty surface application, not a standard metal one.
